We didnt do any boat work this weekend. Greg was out of town. Were probably not doing any boat work next week because its gonna be my bachelor party. We wont be doing any boat work the weekend after becaust Im getting married that weekend, and its Greg and his daughters birthdays. Are you seeing a trend here? I miss working on the boat.

But last weekend, we joined the bottom hull pieces together with thickened epoxy. Not much progress, but every little bit counts.

I am not an expert at marine or otherwise wiring, other than to know current flows from positive to negative and thus wired up the bow and stern light in a series.  That is, one long stream from input to output/ground.  This did not work.  The bow light looked fantastic with a very anemic light on the stern.  First thoughts were, "Perhaps this is how it is supposed to look."  But then took the stern pole light directly to the battery and connected a temporary hook up.  The light burned bright and could actually be seen by an approaching boat if necessary.  Hmmm, my connections must be wrong.

Some online research and low and behold each light can share a positive lead but needs its own route back to ground, or each light can be run on a separate circuit shared by a common switch (a three position off/pull/pull switch.  Knowing that the stern lights can be problematic from a corrosion and dirt point of view.  The ability to power on the bow light separately appeals to me and will thus go with the later wiring.  Another lesson learned.  Additionally, I will install a fuse in the positive lead from the battery as well.

Thank you for all the kind comments about
the evening clutch
that I showed yesterday!!

As promised, heres the tutorial:

... but first, could you please go and click the "like button on the Facebook contest...
- "like" the Wholeport FB page
- and then click  this link of the Creativity Expo and like my picture... easy as that! ??thank you! ???

I used few pieces of scraps satin leftover from a tablecloth that I made about... 20 years ago ?!
(time flies when youre having fun, ahaha!!)
What is wrong with me that this pieces of leftovers where still in my stash?
You never know - thats my motto ;)

--> Measurements & supplies:

(Because I used the United Airlines pouch as a liner, I had to cut the fabric for my clutch based on its measurements, also the fabric I used is pretty thick and didnt need any backing)

- for the base clutch:
  1 rectangular  8-1/2" x 11-1/2"
- for the bow:
  2 rectangular 5-1/2" x 14-1/4"
  1 rectangular 5" x 11" (can be much shorter than 11", but I cut it that long and chopped off at the end)
  1 odd shaped pointed (see picture)

--> How to:

* for the first row of the rosette trim, pin and sew the tulle part of the trim to the top edge of the fabric and cut it at the end of the fabric
* for all the next rows: lay the next row of trim with the rosettes on top of the previous row front part over front, pin and sew on the edge of the rosettes (so you wont have much gap between each rows of trim)
* once you have sewn the last tulle edge, fold inside out and sew only one side of the soon to be clutch

--> Now, the bow

* sew the two rectangular pieces with only on the longer sides and turn right side out and press
* fold both flaps leaving a gap in the middle (so you wont have too much bulk) a sew with a long stitch, just to keep it in place
* with the part that doesnt have the gap, make some "accordion like folds" and hand stitch few stitches to keep it from unfold
* fold in half the odd shaped arrow piece of fabric, leaving the smallest part open, cut the two corners and turn right side out, pushing the corners out as much as you can to have a nice pointy tie looking thingy
* make a fold in the middle, placing your bow-to-be on top to make sure of the length you want to have for this tie piece, once youre happy, give it few stitches to keep it in place, cut off the extra fabric, and stitch it also to the back of the accordion
* the 5"x11" rectangular piece needs to be folded as in the last picture, and pressed, once done the width is 1-3/4"
* now, wrap around the accordion the piece with the folds, and keep it as tight as possible, pin and give it few stitches in the back to secure it to the rest of the bow

--> Finishing the clutch

For some reasons, some pictures got deleted and you have to bare with me and work your imagination :( sorry about that... this is the result of making things late at night :(

* place your bow next to the clutch, and see where the long extras of the folded part in the middle should be, make a sign
* sew the other side of the clutch (always inside out, dont forget that!! ah!!) leaving the 1-3/4" opening where you want the bow to "stick inside"
* place and pin tightly the bow inside the opening and sew it slowly (there should be a lot of bulkiness, so be kind to your sewing machine!!)
* cut the excess and flip the clutch right sides out!!

...almost done!

Slip inside the United airlines pouch and hand sew it around the zipper ( I placed the zipper puller in a way that, when its closed, will hide behind the bow)

Youre right! the zipper of that pouch is lime green! Not what i wanted for my evening-chic-fancy clutch!
Just look in your make-up cabinet, and im sure youll find a good matching nail polish!!!
Paint over the zipper edge, and the plastic parts, and move the zipper up and down while its drying !
I LOVE DIY and figure out at midnight how to have a quick fix!!!

Anyway, its finished and fit all the "party essentials" :)

Thanks for stopping by and try to understand my mumbo-jumbo crafting lingo, I hope that my tutorial was not too confusing !

xox, d.

will *<:) party here!

BoatFrame
Originally uploaded by OzzyC.
This week, we set the rest of the sacrificial frame pieces in place, using the same process described in last weeks entry. This photo shows the full skeleton of the boat, and based on the shape of the skeleton, you should now be able to mentally picture the shape of the hull.

At this point, the stringers and sacrificial frame pieces are not precisely set in their final position, but theyre pretty close. Some of the notches are too wide, too deep (or too shallow), or some combination thereof. But again, its pretty close.

Next week we will do more precise adjustments of the frame by cutting the too-shallow notches a little deeper, and shimming the areas where theres too much slop. That process will likely take a couple of sessions, because were picky on precision.

Every little bit of work brings us closer to our goal of completing the boat. We havent done a lot lately, but Greg is still plugging away a few hours here and there. Im only available once or twice per week, and lately its been prohibitively hot to get much accomplished when Im available. Greg on the other hand, has the luxury of being able to work on the boat late at night, when the temperature is at its coolest. Throw in the holidays and other summer activities, and you can understand how the progress has yet again slowed to a crawl.

The picture to the right is a shot after our latest round of sanding and fairing, and the addition of the skid guard I mentioned in my last post. If you judge by the dull sanded area, it looks more crooked than it actually is. Compare it to the center line and youll see that its pretty good.

Greg has finally acquired a motor for the boat. Its an Evanrude 150 horse motor. He got it from an outfit somewhere around Kansas City. I think he paid roughly $2200; when compared to a new motor, its a hell of a deal. Last week we fired it up and it runs very well. If I think about it, Ill get more details from Greg about the motor and give the seller some props... no pun intended.
